So this is really an easy/basic recipe and makes about 50 cookies. I like to spice up my recipe by either adding some choc chips or cinnamon&nutmeg instead of vanilla. An
awesome idea is to
add food colouring to the raw cookie dough.

Here's what you need:
- 150g butter, soften
- 150g sugar
- 2 pinches of salt
- 5ml vanilla essence
- 1 egg
- 265g self-raising flour
Here's how to make them:
- Preheat the oven to 200 Degrees Celsius, and grease a baking tray.
- Soften the butter, then add the sugar, vanilla, salt and egg and stir.
- Knead the flour into the mixture
- Roll out the dough into about 4mm thick and cut out into shapes
- Bake for 10minutes
I baked these heart cookies the other day using this recipe. The only change is that I divided my cookie dough into 3/4 and 1/4, and then adding some pink food colouring to the (3/4) ball cookie dough.

The shape that I wanted is a heart shaped cookie. So I made a long 'tube' heart, rolling out the remaining 1/4 white cookie dough and covering the pink with the white. Another thing to do is to refrigerate the shaped cookie dough before you start cutting it into cookie slices, especially if you decide to roll the dough into a tube; This makes cutting the cookie dough easier and doesn't deform the shape when cutting. I recommend refrigerating the dough between 30min to an hour.
